—Why We Are Studying Revelation—
WHY STUDY REVELATION?
1. It’s God’s Word.
It is what God had revealed to us through His servant John.
We ought not to be afraid to study Revelation because it is complex and not easily understood.
We ought not to be afraid to study Revelation because we (even in this class) have different interpretations of it.
2. It will profit us.
2 Timothy 3:16–17 [16] All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, [17] that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. (ESV)
It will stretch us as a people (Pete Steen style).
We will grow in our understanding of God.
3. God has been preparing us.
Through our studies of the Reformation (Luther, Calvin, and the 20-some reformers that we studied), and then through the Canons of Dort, we learned church doctrine and deep, complex theological constructs. We learned what we believe and why we believe it.
We have seen God reveal Himself to His people whom he loves so much in our studies of the Wilderness Wanderings and now through the Minor Prophets.
The Holy Spirit is helping us connect the dots to bring a picture of our Holy God to life right in front of our eyes.
God is using these studies to prepare us for something big! [Read NEPC’s Vision Statement]
